CRACK FOR YOUR EYES

Damn, I missed it! While I had the chance to get a healthy dose of spray paint fumes and beer at Villa Friekens for the third time this year, I was sick. Luckily we can always count on stonie for the pictures! Seems like it has been another great jam this year with some wonderful work from amazing artist hailing from all over europe. A small selection of the work in the image gallery underneath. For even more pics, check stonie's photostream.

Tomorrow is 'International poster boy celebration day'. Like some celebrate the birth of Jezus, we celebrate Poster Boy, the messiah of the underground. Artists need a little bit of TLC too, especially after the legal troubles Poster boy got into recently. New York City could not appreaciate his offline photoshopping of commercial posters on the subway stations and send out a SWAT team (or maybe just a few officers, what do I know) to an art opening where the alledged criminal was suppose to hang out and made NY safe again. Now prison is no place for a street artist (skin too soft, no TLC) Poster Boy soon realized  , and started 'KARATE' (Kids Are Rallying Against Teh Empire) as self defence. This new organization should help artists with legal funds. The poor artist will be in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and London presenting this idea and signing his new book (I smell a hoax). All the locations are on the flyer.

So what good comes out of Northern Ireland? Liam Neeson? Ulster Fry? Rain? I Honestly don't know. I think Matthew Knight is my favorite export product out of Northern Ireland from now on. Matthew does his amazing illustrations on every surface he can gets his hand on, and right now he has a show going on @ the Outland store Gallery on the Zeedijk in Amsterdam. It's open 'till September 13 so check it out if you have the chance.

Eindhoven! "what?" yes Eindhoven. A city in the Netherlands, known for Philips, PSV, Luke da Duke's and Iamdooms. Depending on where you're from you might have no clue what I'm talking about, but all you should know is that there will be a nice graffiti jam soon with quite the line up! Step in the arena invited Belin (Spain), New2 (Australia), ML’S Crew (Italy), Dead (England), Toaster (England), Musa (Spain), Supe (France), Flai (Spain), Bue (Belgium) and many more.

Writers coming without an invite are welcome too. All the info is on the flyer.

While here in the Netherlands people were either boring themselves to death with the Sail event or drinking themselves to death on Lowlands2010, in London everyone was high on paint fumes during the Meeting Of Styles. For those who just cut their first stencil or others that have no idea, the Meeting Of Styles is a network of artists and aficionados who organize multiple international graffiti events worldwide.  The lineup of artists is, like always, legendary! Of course the Steve Irwins under the graffiti hunters were present as well, delivering us  some grade A shots of work in progress and the finished pieces. Here a collection from RomanyWG, Urbanartcore.eu and Unusualimage.

They might have a website that makes my browser crash like MySpace, but Brooklynite gallery (yes, in Brooklyn) has it going on! The upcoming exhibition is a duo show with C215 and Eelus. C215, I think most of us know because of his mad cutting skills and bold street work all over the world.

Eelus just had his first solo show in the UK this year and had nothing but great reviews. No wonder, because his works are an ultimate mix between the real and surreal. I'm certainly looking forward to this one.

The Street Art Communication Festival in Košice-Slovakia, will be held for the 3th time from 16-22 August. From the looks of it, this will be a huge festival with a full week of painting from national and international artists.  Check out the program and all the info right here.
